          Notes for Virginia Ratliff:

I sure appreciate all the family info and the ancestry document you created pertaining just to me with all the Ratliff information too. That was very thoughtful and it means a lot to me. I still need to double check on the birth date for Gene Harrison. Jim's date of birth was indeed 10-2 in Wichita, but I am not sure about Gene's. I saw the recorded info you attached. I will head out to the cemetery and check the gravestone. Also, I will take another look at Jim's baby book that you and Donna gave me. I have looked at it a lot, but don't have it memorized. There may be a gem or two of information in there, yet to be gleaned. It seems odd to me that dad would not have mentioned that he and his father shared the same birthday. I don't know that you need to be too concerned about accuracy where my mom's concerned, but for the record, Grace Lambert was born in Percival, Iowa on the 16th of November, 1893. She was raised in Cody, Wyoming, but not actually born there. Virginia (Lee) Ratliff Harrison died in Andover rather than Wichita. Carter Emmanuel Ratliff died in Fort Scott, Kansas on 20-something November, 1962. . By the way, seems odd that Kent's mother's name is Janette (same spelling at Grandmother Postlewait's (Eugene's mom) and Kent's middle name is Eugene. It's not a family name, Janette just liked it.

Notes for Abe Shaffer:

When Abe was a young man, according to granddaughter Betty Burnell Boone, he delivered mail by horseback. He lived in a little house in Cowley county, 8 miles south of Kellogg on the Rose Hill Road.

The farm was one left in trust to Abe by his father and was passed on to Emma and Georgie upon his death.

"I remember visiting grandpa on that farm as a little girl. He was a very handsome man with beautiful clear blue eyes. He lived in the same house on the farm which had a living room with a pot belly stove, a kitchen with a wood burning cook stove and a pitcher pump at the sink, a room that was shut off where he stored grain, and a loft above it all where my mother and her sister slept when they were girls. This was in the 1930's. When Georgie and Emma were grown but not married, my grandmother and the girls moved to Mulvane where she did practical nursing and my mother was postmistress for a number of years.

Abe was a sheepherder in Oregon also. Abe farmed land near Wichita which was from William Frederich Shaffer. Eula wrote Betty concerning Abe..."He was farming one day, tied his horses to the fence and disappeared, leaving his wife and two daughters." Georgia later moved to Oregon and Mellisia and Emma moved to Wichita.

He died of Cancer and is buried in Joseph, Wallowa County, Oregon.

Notes for Mellisia May LaBrue:

The LaBrue estate is situated on the water front of the lower town of the city of Quebec, Canada

This property was leased to the Catholic Church in the years 1814 for 99 years for the education of John and Frances LaBrue as Priests.

John LaBrue denouced priesthood and the time of graduation: Investigations seem to show tht his name has been obliterated from the church records, and Frances LaBrue died before he graduated. His record can be found in the Lavel University of Quebec Parish. John LaBrue studied at some other university.
